Strappings

Strapping

We at Laois Injury Clinic specialise in strapping, Dynamic taping and Kinesiology taping.

Taping and strapping techniques are commonly used by Physical Therapists in the treatment, support and prevention of sports injuries. Tape jobs are used to give extra support and reassurance to the injured joints and soft tissues. A number of different taping and strapping materials can be used depending on the type of strapping job required.

Elastic adhesive bandage is a lightweight strapping bandage that can be used for muscle and joint taping such as ankle, wrist, knee, etc and is frequently used by ourselves at Laois Injury Clinic in the prevention and treatment of muscle and joint injuries.

Kinesiology Tape is a thin, highly elastic therapeutic tape that should be applied to the skin by only highly skilled therapists to treat and prevent injuries. It is used before, during and after activity.Kinesiology tape can help relieve muscle pain, promote the healing process and prevent injuries. It also improves the blood supply to muscles and joints, soothes overworked muscles and strengthens weak or fatigued muscles.

Dynamic Tape is designed to allow the elastic potential energy present in the tape to contribute to the bio mechanics of the task being performed and by doing so assist or resist motion, assisting concentric or eccentric muscle action. In simple terms we are using the elasticity of the tape to mimic the action of the muscle. It requires a certain amount of force to move a joint and some of this force is contributed by the elasticity in the tape, therefore less needs to be generated by the muscle thereby reducing its workload.
